APHANTASIA TRIPTYCH
As an artist with aphantasia myself, I wanted to take on the challenge on visualizing the inability to visualize.
What’s interesting is that there is a range of severity with aphantasia, in fact, in my mind I don’t see outlines at all.
SKETCHES
Originally, I thought about making the triptych a more interactive piece, having the viewer compare their own imagination to what would be on the posters.
FINAl DESIGNS
To better compare the how most people see things in their mind with how people with aphantasia may see it, the two posters share the same design but reflected.
The middle poster functions as a way to visually connect the two posters on the sides.
The prompt in the middle is visualized on the other two posters, and on its own, allows the viewer to imagine the bird as well.
